It’s no secret that there is a lot of waste in the wedding industry. I’d like to think we can each do our part to help limit the environmental impact – even in small ways. Our Green Bride series will feature ways you can do just that. The first one focuses on dinnerware. There are a few options for dinner that look great & minimize the impact to our environment.
I love the look of vintage china on a table. It doesn’t have to match. In fact, I think it’s beautiful if it doesn’t. Rent them, search garage sales, thrift stores, bridal resale events or grandma’s basement!
You heard me right… disposable plates. Really nice, modern styles. The best part? They can be recycled. You don’t have to have space to wash them or collect them – perfect for outdoor or backyard events. Just create a spot for recycling and you are set. Rumpke in Cincinnati charges just $5 per recycling bin for your event. It’s a win, win. Check out a few options from Restaurantware.com. The prices are about what you’d expect to pay for a rental piece, or less.
These bamboo options are stunning. I love they are eco-friendly too. The bamboo dinnerware and utensilas are compost friendly. Again, Restaurantware.com has some great options. You can even order a sample pack to try out the quality first. Reuse these a few times before composting if you want to get further use from them!
If you are looking for more of a formal option or a specific design, renting is better than buying or using disposables that can’t be recycled or composted. These items do require more energy and water to clean but they are re-used countless times. Prime Time Party Rental has some great china options (and the staff is awesome to work with!)
That’s it. Four easy, eco-friendly, budget friendly ways to serve your guests on your wedding day. Stay tuned for more ideas on how to be a Green Bride!
